Electrozombies: Skull of chaos

03/05/13  ||  gk

Chile’s Electrozombies have been dwelling in obscurity for over a decade and while they have always released quality stuff, they just don’t seem to get any recognition. 2012’s “Skull of chaos” was another album from the band that just seemed to slip under the radar. This is a definite step up from 2008’s “He visto” which is saying a lot because that album was pretty kick ass as well. What we have here is some dirty grind-crust-sludge with short, to the point songs and some truly kickass riffs and grooves. The trio are masters at changing tempos and can effortlessly shift from a grind beat to a doomy, sludged out passage while always ensuring that the groove is memorable. Redencion no. is a perfect example of the band’s sound with its lo-fi crusty approach and mid-paced groove. They sort of remind me of a crustier Catheter from time to time and “Skull of chaos” is another quality offering that should appeal to fans of crust, grind and sludge. Dig them out because Electrozombies deserve some recognition.

8/10: Nasty and dirty but still somehow memorable and addictive.
